The City of Miles City Council has received the following Floodplain Variance request:
A variance request has been made by Ellis Rentals for two lots in the 100-year floodplain.  The site is located at 900 Albert Ave. lot # 37 & 47  and is legal described as section 27, Township 08N, Range 47E, Tract A & B, in the NESW & NWSE between Milwaukee and Burlington Northern RR in Miles City, Montana.  The applicant is seeking a variance to construct a residential structure meeting FEMA standards but below local regulations of BFE +2’.
The site is currently mapped as an AE flood hazard zone with Base Flood Elevation given.

Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks is seeking public comment on the Draft Environmental Assessment (EA) for its proposal to acquire a conservation easement on 14,300.75 acres of private land located northwest of Miles City in Custer and Rosebud County. The overall intent of the project is to conserve and enhance wildlife habitat and provide public access to the land in perpetuity.
FWP will hold a public hearing in Miles City on Wednesday, August 29 at 6:30 p.m. at the FWP Region 7 headquarters to discuss the proposed conservation easement.

The Montana Fish and Wildlife Commission has the final decision-making authority for FWP land acquisition proposals, and the Commission will be asked to render its decision on this proposal at its October 2018 meeting in Helena.
