Youth free throw contest slated for Jan. 22

All boys and girls ages 9-14 are invited to participate in the local level of competition for the 2017 Knights of Columbus Free Throw Contest.

The local competition will be held on Sunday, Jan. 22 at 1 p.m. in the Sacred Heart School gymnasium, according to Kevin Layton of Sacred Heart School.

The Free Throw Contest is held annually, with winners progressing through local, district and state competitions. 

Boys and girls ages 9-11  will shoot from a 12-foot foul line and use a women’s regulation ball.

Girls ages 12-14 will shoot from a 15-foot foul line and use a women’s regulation ball.

Boys ages 12-14 will shoot from a 15-foot foul line and use a men’s regulation ball.

According to a news release, each contestant will be allowed 15 consecutive free throws to see who makes the most.

Those tied for the highest score will compete in successive rounds, each being allowed five free throws until one contestant emerges as winner.

All contestants at the local level are recognized for their participation in the event, Layton said.
