Star Staff

Rocky Mountain College has a renowned NAIA women’s volleyball team. Its junior varsity also is talented.

That was evidenced Wednesday night when the junior varsity shut out Miles Community College 3-0 in Butte. The set scores were 25-22, 25-22, 25-19.

The loss dropped the Pioneers to 2-3 with all the losses coming on the road.

Ceeara Staiger led MCC with six kills, Kailey Thomson had 33 digs; Emma Dudley notched seven assists; Leah Aigner had four blocks and Michelle Hoppins had two aces.

“We played a great match against Rocky,” MCC coach Chase Soennichsen said. “The overall scheme came together and piece by piece we’re getting there. Our defense was outstanding, and with the new tempo of the offense we saw glimpses of downright great volleyball.”

The Pioneers had fallen 3-0 to Bismarck State College on Monday. Jade Kananen led with seven kills, Thomson had 17 digs, Aigner had four blocks and Dudley led with 15 assists, followed by Tori Ogolin with seven.

Next on the schedule is another road trip today and Saturday to a tournament in Sheridan, Wyoming.
