Volleyball: Cowgirls lose 3-1

Custer County District High School won the first set before losing three in a row to Hardin on the road Saturday in girls volleyball action.

The Cowgirls won 25-21 before the hosts took control, winning three straight 25-16, 25-20, 26-24 for the 3-1 victory.

“The girls played well,” Cowgirls coach Kodi Malnaa said. “It was a battle.”

Saige Diegel had 17 of the 62 digs for CCDHS. Teammates Josie Chapweske had 14 and Autumn Porter 12.

Kyra Oakland led in blocks with five and Brooke Leidholt had four. Alexa Kappel had three aces, Porter two and Sydney Johnstone one.

Diegel had nine of the 23 kills by the Cowgirls with Raquel McAullife notching six and Oakland and Dezi Chamberlin three each. Assists weren’t recorded.

The CCDHS junior varsity won 25-14, 25-5, 15-9 with Morgan Johnstone getting 10 kills and Emily Toennis five. Ryleigh Simonsen had seven assists and Hope Herzog five. Sydney Johnstone had five aces and Simonsen three. Charlie Vermeire and Mack Rask had two digs each.

In the freshman match, CCDHS won 20-25, 25-13, 15-6, 15-12. Taylor Lee had seven aces and six kills.

Next up for the Cowgirls is a trip to Laurel on Thursday.
