Star Staff Writer

The victim of the shooting near Moon Creek Road in Custer County Thursday morning has been identified.

Custer County Sheriff Tony Harbaugh told the Star Monday that the deceased is Shania Raymond, 21.

Harbaugh said Raymond’s listed address was Miles City. Her Facebook page indicates she previously lived in Couer d’ Alene, Idaho.

Law enforcement was notified of the shooting at about 10:30 a.m. by a suspect in the shooting, Travis Doss, 21.

Doss told a dispatcher there had been a shooting at his residence along Moon Creek Road in southwestern Custer County.

When Custer County sheriff’s deputies arrived they discovered Doss with an apparent gunshot wound to the head, and a female, later identified as Raymond, with multiple gunshot wounds. Raymond was pronounced dead at the scene.

Doss was taken by deputies to Holy Rosary Hospital for treatment and was subsequently booked into the Custer County Detention Center Thursday evening. He is being held on an affidavit of probable cause involving the death of Raymond.

At the request of Harbaugh the Montana Department of Criminal Investigation has been brought in to assist in the investigation.

Harbaugh said a motive has not yet been determined. He was unable to provide any details regarding the incident due to the ongoing investigation.
