United Christian Church (UCC) of Miles City is hosting its annual Fair Trade fundraiser on Saturday. The event will be from 8 a.m. to noon at the Farmers’ Market in Riverside Park.

Typically, this fundraiser supports refugee relief through Church World Service (CWS) but this year, UCC has added something different.

“In light of the devastating wildfires experienced by our neighbors to the north, this year’s sale proceeds will be split between CWS and the Garfield County Fire Relief Fund,” said Barb Cole, a member of UCC’s mission task force. “UCC will donate the fire relief funds through Stockman Bank, which is matching contributions up to $10,000.”

The Farmer’s Market booth will feature a large variety of hand-crafted fair trade products. Many of the items are made by artisans from countries such as India, Bangladesh, Haiti, South Africa and the Philippines. There is also an assortment of colorful products from Swaziland, Uganda, Bali, Palestine and Israel.

Items for sale include woven baskets, jewelry, ceramics, home and garden decor and an assortment of other unique items. The booth also features some pottery pieces made and donated by local artists. Strands of origami peace cranes, crafted locally and strung with beads, are available for purchase. A selection of home baked goods is also planned.

For more information about the UCC booth, contact Cole at 234-8765 or Marilyn Thaden at 853-1651.

Miles City residents are encouraged to come out on Saturday morning and enjoy the Farmers’ Market.

Cole added, “Shopping at our Fair Trade booth is a way of helping out neighbors both near and far away.”
