Trio of Cowboys finish 3rd at Colstrip wrestling tournament

A trio of freshmen Custer County District High School varsity wrestlers — Braxton Scheeler, Kaid Campbell and Tyler Harms — earned third-place finishes at a tournament at Colstrip High School on Dec. 22.

Wrestling at 103 pounds, Scheeler pinned Shepherd freshman Mason Henry in 1:10 and went on to place third in the eight-team tournament. He lost 14-0 to tournament champion Tanner Cook, also of Shepherd.

Campbell notched a hard-fought 5-2 decision over Terrel Koenig of Baker in the third-place match at 132 pounds.

At 182 pounds, Harms placed third by defeating Schmitt Gage of Shepherd by fall in 2:16.

Junior Kon Speelmon and freshman Jake Murnion also placed for Custer County.

Speelmon pinned Huntley junior Loren Sherman in 2:18 in the fifth-place match at 145 pounds.

In the 120/126 pound weight class, Murnion won by fall over Glendive freshman Calvin Handran in 2:49 in the fifth-place bout.

Huntley won the team title, amassing 192.5 points, followed by Colstrip (158), Glendive (130) and Shepherd (107.5). Custer County finished seventh with 61 points.

Custer County will host the Cowboy Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
