Tips help keep people safe when outdoors

The Miles City Fire and Rescue crew has some tips for people who plan to be outdoors for any length of time during winter weather.

Following are several of those tips to help keep people as warm and safe as possible, according to a news release from Miles City Fire and Rescue.

— Wear appropriate outdoor clothing. Wear a tightly woven, preferably windresistant coat or jacket; inner layers of light, warm clothing; mittens, hats and scarves; and waterproof boots.

— Sprinkle cat litter or sand on icy patches.

— Learn safety precautions to follow when outdoors such as working slowly when doing outside chores., taking a buddy and an emergency kit when you are participating in outdoor recreation and carrying a cell phone.
