HELENA — The Montana Department of Justice’s Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) is continuing the investigation into the death of two Carter County brothers on Thursday.

Travis Carlson, 39, died from a gunshot wound at approximately 5:15 p.m. Thursday on Tie Creek Road in rural Carter County.

The case is being investigated as a possible homicide involving Carlson’s twin brother, Eric Carlson, 39, according to a DCI news release.

Eric Carlson was found dead at his home the following morning of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Autopsies on both bodies were completed on Tuesday at the State Crime Lab in Billings.

DCI assigned agents to the case at the request of Carter County Sheriff Neil Kittelmann, according to the news release.

When the investigation is complete, the Carter County Attorney’s Office will determine if further action if warranted, the news release noted.
