Sports Mavs log perfect weekend

The Miles City Mavericks American Legion baseball team extended its winning streak to six over the weekend, winning doubleheaders on Friday in Wolf Point and Sunday in Glasgow. The Mavericks defeated their opponents by a combined 56-8 score, thanks to lopsided 21-1 and 19-1 wins over Wolf Point. They improved to 23-15 on the season, and visit the Malta Athletics today for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.

Miles City 11, Glasgow 3

Clay Prell pitched a two-hitter over six scoreless innings to lead the Mavericks to an easy win over Glasgow in Sunday’s nightcap. Prell struck out seven. Prell also led the way at the plate with three hits and two RBIs and the Mavericks outhit the hosts 11-2. Cameron Muri went 2-for-3 with a double and the Mavericks stole eight bases led by Jaden Venable with three and Jack Cline with two.

Miles City 4, Glasgow 3

Jess Bellows scored from third on a Glasgow error in the top of the seventh as the Mavericks won the opener 4-3. Bellows had a double and a single, and Jack Cline had two hits and stole two bases for Miles City. Bellows also picked up the win, allowing five hits and three runs in five innings of work. He struck out seven and walked two.

Miles City 21, Wolf Point 1

Venable and Joel Christopherson combined for a one-hitter as the Mavs built an 18-0 lead over three innings and rode out the clock, winning via mercy rule after five innings on Friday. Miles City battered Wolf Point pitching for 23 hits, led by Riley O’Donnell who went 4-for-5 with a three-run homer and five RBIs. Bellows was 4-for-5 with four RBIs.

Miles City 19, Wolf Point 1

Brendan Hager threw a three hitter and struck out 10 batters to lead Miles City. Jess Bellows went 5-for-5 with four RBIs as the Mavs built an 11-0 lead over three innnings and cruised to the five-inning win. Miles City outhit Wolf Point 18-3. Prell was 3-for-4 with four RBIs and Christopherson had three hits.
