Pioneers selected to All Region team

Four Miles Community College basketball players, two from the men’s team and two from the women’s team were selected to the All-Region XIII team.

The players who received this honor were Binta Salawu, Claire Borot, Gedeon Buzangu, and Issac Abergut.

Salawu, a sophomore guard out of Sydney, Australia, led the Lady Pioneers with 20 points per game on the season. The 5-foot-4- inch guard also added in six rebounds, four assists and nearly three steals a game. In her lone season as a Lady Pioneer, Salawu scored 639 points.

Borot, a 6-foot sophomore forward from Martinique, France, was the Lady Pioneers second leading scorer, averaging 13 points per game. Borot also added in seven rebounds per game. Borot’s play hit a second level in MonDak play this season, helping to turn the Lady Pioneers season around and helped lead them to their 19-13 record.

Buzangu, from Kinshasa, Congo, was the Pioneers second leading scorer and the top rebounder. The 6-foot-8-inch sophomore averaged 14 points and 10 rebounds a game, shooting 52% from the field. According to MCC, Buzangu has recently committed to continuing his career as a student athlete playing at Idaho State next season.

Abergut, a 6-foot-6-inch forward from Melbourne, Australia, was the do-everything wing for the Pioneers this season, averaging 14 points, eight rebounds, and three assists per game while shooting 48% from the field and 39% from three-point range. The sophomore averaged a team-high 27.6 minutes per game on the season.
