New amphitheater to host inaugural concert Saturday

The inaugural event of the new Ryno Amphitheater will be held on Saturday with the music event, Ryno-Palooza, in Riverside Park.

Scheduled for 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., the event is free to the public.

The music, which features six bands, begins at noon.

The headliners, The Social Animals, are a rock/indie band out of Duluth, Minnesota. They’ll take the stage at 6:30 p.m.

They released their debut extended play (EP) in 2016. Since then they’ve traveling the country spreading their music. The majority of their record was recorded live at Modest Mouse’s ‘Ice Cream Party Studios.’ The band members include Dedric Clark, Tony Petersen, Roger Whittet and Boyd Smith.

The event is hosted by Milestown Community Improvement Incorporated (MCii), a local group of young professionals that raises money for projects in town, including the amphitheater.

The amphitheater cost about $48,000 to build. To pay for the facility, the group used the revenue from the sale of plain black license plates with the bucking horse representing Miles City.

While the music starts at noon, the fun starts at 9:30 a.m. with registration for the cornhole tournament. The entry fee is $20 per team. All entries will go into the purse money, and the top 25 percent will earn a payout.

A cornhole tournament is a lawn game where players take turns throwing bags of corn or bean bags at a platform with a hole in the far end. The tournament begins at 11 a.m.

The beer gardens open at 10 a.m. They will offer domestic beers and microbrews. The local Tongue River Winery will also serve.

At noon the concession stand will open along with various vendors, including a pair selling event shirts and hats.

The concession stand will be run by the Miles City Youth Hockey Association.

Family members of all ages are encouraged to attend. For the children bounce houses will be available.
