MCC rodeo teams place at MSU

Team boss Wally Badgett took his young Miles Community College rodeo team to the Montana State University spring rodeo April 6-9 and came home with a sixth-place finish for the men and fifth-place for the women.

On the season, the women’s team has 505.50 total points and sits in fourth place, while the men have 570 points and are in sixth place in the Big Sky Region of the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association.

Freshmen and Miles City native Koley Schmidt and Jaclyn Noll were the sole placers in the first events at MSU, with Schmidt taking fifth on the broncs and Noll tying goats into a tie for fifth.

The final day saw Noll finish seventh in 8.5-seconds in goat tying.

Team roping header Hunter Sandstrom and his MCC heeler Lance Anderson finished eighth with a 10-second run, while sophomore heeler Wyatt Foulger, with Montana State University header Lane McGill, took third with a 7.9 second finish.

The MSU results put goat-tying Noll in 14th place in the Big Sky Region, and Melanie Johnson in a five-way tie for 14th in the breakaway.

Schmidt sits at 11th in the bronc riding, while Tucker Harmon holds the 14th  slot. Miles City cowboy Michael Crews is in a three-way tie at seventh on the bulls.

Jayci Lamphere is currently the highest-ranked team roper for MCC, sitting at 10th place as a header. Lawson McGill is in the 11th spot as a heeler, with Miles City’s Foulger coming in at the 14th spot.

Freshman Ellie Rankin holds the highest current standing of all MCC rodeo athletes; she is in eighth in breakaway roping.

The MCC team heads to Glendive April 20-21, before a quick turnaround to ride and rope at home on Saturdday and Sunday, April 22-23, at the Miles Community College Ag Advancement Center.
