The 2017-18 Miles Community College rodeo team opened its season last weekend in a college rodeo in Cody, Wyoming.

“We didn’t do very well, just one of those rough days,” MCC coach Wally Badgett said.

His top placers were Faith Tarter of Ashland, fourth in the goal tying, and the team roping tandem of Lexi Shipp of Miles City and Nate Howell of Circle, who also were fourth.

The ream of 29 goes to Glendive for a two-day rodeo that also will include four-year schools.

“It’s a young team, but there could be a lot of developing talent,” Badgett said, adding that some of his top competitors will be Trystin Hooper and Wyatt Foulger in tie-down and team roping.

Jayci Lamphere is in her third year with the team.

All of the team members, except one, are from Montana, North Dakota and South Dakota. The exception is a roper from Hawaii.

Team members from Miles City are Shipp, Foulger, Michael Crews, Koley Schmidt and Kaci Anderson.

The 2017-18 MCC rodeo team consists of Lexi Schipp, Hunter Sandstrom, Wyatt Foulger, Jerret Warren, Michael Crews, Trystin Hooper, Koley Schmidt, Tim Anderson, Baili Nielsen, Camira Miller, Tyra Fuhrman, Faith Tarter, Kaci Anderson, Balee Stenger, Justin Dahl, Caleb Zeiler, MaKenna Sandstrom, Taylyn Koenig, Jayci Lamphere, Alycia Conroy, Martje-Jane Plaggemeyer, Ila Rankin, Bell Ward, Jordan Dooley, Lawson McGill, Travis Shannon, Chantz Hubing, Kailee Cameron and Nate Howell.
