The Miles Community College men’s basketball team has welcomed a pair of new players into the fold.

Evan Harrell, a guard out of Cut Bank, Montana, and Colon Martinez, a forward from Houston, Texas, will suit up for the Pioneers in the 2017-18 season, MCC men’s basketball coach Chase Tait has announced.

Harrel is a 6-foot-2 guard who helped lead Cut Bank High School to its first appearance in the state tournament in more than a decade last season.

He averaged 15.5 points, five assists and 3.5 rebounds per game while landing 62 three-pointers as a senior, earning second team All-Conference honors.

Harrell said he hopes to help MCC improve on an injury-plagued 12-19 campaign last year.

“Coach Tait is building something special and I’m just happy to be able to contribute anything I can,” he said.

Martinez, a 6-foot-5 forward, averaged 13 points and eight rebounds per game during his senior season at Westside High School in Houston.

He helped lead his team to the second round of the playoffs, and was designated an All-District honorable mention.

Martinez said he likes the small MCC campus.

“This gives me the ability to limit distractions and focus on every aspect of what I love to do, which is basketball,” he said.

MCC competes in Region IX of the National Junior College Athletic Association.
