MC’s The Out Crowd wins Fort Peck softball tournament

Playing eight games in two days, The Out Crowd of Miles  City won the seventh annual Aaron “Chappy” Chatten Memorial Co-ed Softball Tournament last weekend in Fort Peck.

The Out Crowd won its first two games — 25-5 over Sidney Basic Pitches and 18-16 over the Glendive Shockers — before falling 18-15 to Skoden in the quarterfinals of the 11-team, double-elimination event.

The loss sent the Miles City team into the consolation bracket but still with a chance to win the championship. They would need five victories.

Mission accomplished.

It started with a 13-6 decision over Rock’s Auto Mall.

Then came a 12-9 win over Newton Motors and a 12-11 verdict over Tilt Works to set up a rematch with Skoden in the championship round.

Needing two victories, The Out Crowd won 14-4 in Game 1 and outlasted Skoden 9-8 in the title showdown.

Making victory even sweeter was the garnering of most valuable player awards by The Out Crowd’s Connor Brown (male) and Sarah VanCleave (female).

The team earned $500, hooded sweatshirts and a home plate plaque. The MVPs also took home plaques.
