Mavs, Colts host Harry Griffith Legion tournament this week

A summer staple on the Miles City baseball circuit plays out this week, as eight teams gather for the annual Harry Griffith Tournament at Connors Stadium.

The tournament, which includes the Miles City Mavericks and Colts, starts tomorrow at 9 a.m. and ends late Sunday afternoon. All games are at Connors Stadium.

Joining the Mavericks in the round-robin Griffith Pool are the Gillette Rustlers, the Black Hills Bombers and the Belgrade Bandits.

The Colts will play in the Laird Pool along with the Glendive Blue Devils, the Great Falls Chargers and the Sturgis Titans.

The schedule:

Thursday — Colts vs. Titans, 9 a.m.; Bandits vs. Blue Devils, 11:30 a.m.; Bandits vs. Rustlers, 2 p.m.;  Chargers vs. Titans, 4:30 p.m.; Mavericks vs. Bombers, 7 p.m.

Friday — Colts vs. Chargers, 9 a.m.; Bombers vs. Chargers, 11:30 a.m.; Bombers vs. Bandits, 2 p.m.; Blue Devils vs. Titans, 4:30 p.m.; Mavericks vs. Rustlers, 7 p.m.

Saturday — Colts vs. Blue Devils, 8 a.m.; Chargers vs. Blue Devils, 10:30 a.m.; Bombers vs. Rustlers, 1 p.m.; Colts vs. Rustlers, 2:30; Mavericks vs. Titans, 6 p.m.; Mavericks vs. Bandits, 8:30.

All teams play once Sunday with the matchups determined by placing in each pool. The No. 4 teams in each pool play at 9 a.m., followed at 11:30 by the third-place teams. The runners-up in each pool play at 2 p.m., followed by the No. 1 teams at 4:30.
