Free holiday dinner to be served on Saturday

Butch and Gloria Grenz, owners and operators of the 600 Cafe and the Hole in the Wall in downtown Miles City, will be serving their annual free holiday dinner on Saturday.

“There will be a choice of roast Tom turkey or a baked ham dinner and all the fixings,” said Butch.

The dinner will be served to everyone, free of charge, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the 600 Cafe at 600 Main St. and the Hole-in-the-Wall at 602 Main St.

Consider it a Christmas gift to the community. All one has to do is show up at either restaurant and find a place to sit.

The free dinner is a long-time holiday tradition at the downtown restaurant.

“We’ve been doing this for the last 68 years,” Butch said in an interview with the Miles City Star this week.

He explained that he and Gloria have had the business and have been serving the meal since sometime in the 1970s. Before that, he said, his mother always served the free holiday meal.

Love of community is the driving force behind continuing the tradition,

“I do this ’cause I live here,” said Butch. “It’s my community, man. It’s just an appreciation type thing.”
