For the first time since 2003, the Miles City International Association of Firefighters (IAFF) Local 600 and the city of Miles City hosted the Montana State Council of Professional Firefighters (MSCOFG) and Montana State Firemen’s Association (MSFA) annual convention.

The annual convention was held last week, with approximately 50 members from throughout the state attending.

The week started off with the Fifth Annual T-Mac Memorial Ride, an annual motorcycle ride held to honor the memory of Miles City firefighter Tim McGlothlin, who passed away in 2011.

The ride started in Big Timber and ended at the Custer County Cemetery for a brief memorial service Monday evening. McGlothlin was one of the club’s founding members.

There was also a golf tournament for members on Monday and a Muscular Dystrophy Association (MAD) dinner.

The IAFF and the MAD have long partnered for the annual “Fill-the-Boot” campaign to raise money for muscular dystrophy research and to pay for a camp for children with muscular dystrophy.

Activities on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday included a business meeting, classroom sessions, workshops and a banquet held at the Sleep Inn & Suites.

On Tuesday evening, a picnic for firefighters and their families will be held at Riverside Park, along with a traditional fire hose coupling contest.

It was the second state-wide convention hosted by Miles City in recent weeks. The 2017 Montana District Kiwanis Convention was held Aug. 4-6, also at the Sleep Inn.
