Fire restrictions instituted at Hell Creek

According to a Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks (FWP) news release, Stage 1 fire restrictions are now in place in Garfield and Carter counties.

The FWP follows the counties’ lead in placing fire restrictions on its properties within each county, so restrictions also will apply to FWP sites in those counties, the news release said.

“Campfires will be allowed at Hell Creek State Park, but only in established steel fire grates. Campfires and smoking are restricted at Medicine Rocks State Park,” the news release stated.

Stage 1 restrictions prohibit campfires unless an exemption has been granted. Smoking is prohibited except in enclosed vehicles or buildings, developed recreation sites, or areas at least three feet in diameter cleared of flammable materials. Recreationists can cook with gas or propane stoves. Restrictions at FWP sites will be in place until further notice.
