Fall Festival begins in downtown Miles City

Fall Festival is under way in Miles City and autumn decorations are appearing around the community. Several of the local businesses are participating in the annual Hay Bale Decorating Contest and numerous homes have been decorated in fall and Halloween themes.

Festivities will continue with more events planned this week starting Wednesday with the showing of the Disney Halloween movie “Hocus Pocus.”

The film, starring Bette Middler, Kathy Najimy and Sarah Jessica Parker as three sisters who are witches, will be shown at 3 p.m. in the Miles City Public Library. The library and the Custer Network Against Domestic Abuse and Sexual Assault are hosting the free after-school movie with refreshments.

Moonlight Madness and the annual Pumpkin Glow are planned for Thursday evening around Miles City. Activities start at 5 p.m. and continue until 8 p.m. with some businesses staying open late that night. North Ninth Street will be blocked off to vehicle traffic from Main Street to the alley until 8 p.m. for the Miles City Public Library’s annual Beer and Brats fundraiser and the Chocolate Confectionery, sponsored by the Range Riders Reps as a fundraiser for the Range Riders Museum. Businesses are invited to light pumpkins in their windows that evening to show the way for shoppers.

Fall Festival activities are not planned for Friday so that all of Miles City’s residents can turn out to cheer on the Custer County District High School Cowboys football team when they play the Dawson County High School Red Devils from Glendive at 7 p.m. in Connors Stadium at Denton Sports Complex.

On Saturday, the Hay Day Vendor Show will be in the parking lot between Main Street Grind and MC Jewelry in the 700 block of Main Street from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Miles City Girl Scouts will host local and area vendors during this event.

Awards for this year’s Hay Bale Decorating Contest also will be presented during a short program at 1 p.m. Prizes include $50 in Chamber Bucks for first place, $30 in Chamber Bucks for second place and $20 in Chamber Bucks for third place.

Anyone interested in having a table at the show may contact the Miles City Area Chamber of Commerce at 511 Pleasant St. or (406) 234-2890. The cost per table (furnished by the vendor) is $20. Non-profit groups may set up their tables for free.

More information about these activities are available from the Chamber.
