Author Russell Rowland to speak at MCC about new book

Montana author Russell Rowland will appear at Miles Community College to speak about his latest book, “Fifty-Six Counties: A Montana Journey.”

The free presentation is slated for 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 28 in the Judson H. Flower Jr. Library.

According to an MCC news release, “Montana has a long and celebrated tradition of artful, reflective nonfiction,” and Rowland’s new book can be added to the list.

Rowland spent most of two years studying and traveling around Montana before penning the book. He is a third-generation Montanan, born in Bozeman in 1957.

Jazz bassist/vocalist Kristin Korb to perform in Billings

 BILLINGS — Jazz ensemble the Kristin Korb Trio will kick off Alberta Bair Theater’s Orser Outstanding Performances Series on Friday, Sept. 29 at 7:30 p.m.

Korb, a bassist and vocalist, is a Billings native and a Billings West High School graduate.

“We are thrilled to welcome Kristin back home and present her at our theater,” Jody Grant, ABT programming director, said in a news release.

“We are fortunate her U.S. tour coincides with her parents’ 50th wedding anniversary so a Billings date could be included on the tour.” Korb is touring in support of her eighth release, “Beyond the Moon.”

Chief Plenty Coups park slates Native American Heritage Day

PRYOR — Montana State Parks will host a free Native American Heritage Day at Chief Plenty Coups State Park from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday.

According to a State Parks news release, Native American Heritage Day includes a parade, a Pow Wow, traditional games and a free lunch. 

The park is located at 1 Edgar Rd. in Pryor, about 40 minutes south of Billings on the Crow Indian Reservation. The park is a National Historic Landmark that includes a visitor center and picnic tables.

Joe Diffie will appear in concert on Saturday, Sept. 30, in Billings. Doors for the 11:11 Presents Joe Diffie concert open at 7 p.m. and the show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are general admission for all ages and cost $30 in advance and on the day of the show.
