Cowboys take second in golf invitational

The Miles City Golf Invitational took place Friday afternoon at the Town and Country Club.

The golf team has been practicing since Aug. 11 and with the Miles City Invitational have already competed in three tournaments.

Head Coach Jon Harris was very pleased with the outcome of his tournament, “We had about 55 kids, it was great weather and I think all the teams had a great time,” said Harris. “It was a great showing by all the kids.”

All the Eastern A schools made their way to Miles City for the tournament. Not each school provided a full team to score, but every school was represented by a golfer.

The Miles City Invitational was the first that included all of the Eastern A teams.

Harris was very pleased with the way his boys shot Friday, scoring a 332 and taking second place, losing to Laurel by just one stroke. Third place in the boys category went to Billings Central with a 338.

The Cowboys also had two players in the top five. Deven Doughty took first with a par 7, while Nick Anderson was fifth with an 82

“This is where I thought we should be,” said Harris. He had one JV player that could have moved onto the varsity team and that would have put the Cowboys into first, but that is a move he can make at the next tournament.

“I think we are going to give Billings Central and Laurel a run for their money,” Harris said. “It showed our boys we can compete with them.”

Harris said he is looking for more improvement as the season continues. “I think if we can play that well here, we can play that well anywhere.”

The Miles City Cowgirls team took third with a 449. Billings Central was second with a 387 while Sidney won with a 351. The Cowgirls didn’t have any individual placers.

The next golf tournament will be at Hardin on Friday Sept. 2.
