Cowboys' Speelmon 5th at Hettinger Classic

The Custer County District High School wrestling team had four placewinners at the 18-team Hettinger Classic this past weekend.

Junior Kon Speelmon was the top finisher for coach Jon Harris’ Cowboys, placing fifth at 145 pounds.

Speelmon pinned Jaden Bosch of Linton, N.D. in 2:38 in the fifth-place match. He finished 5-2 overall in the tournament, winning four times by fall, and once by technical fall.

“All the kids wrestled pretty good, Kon Speelmon in particular,” Harris said. “It was a really good tournament for us. I’m very happy with the effort and how we’re coming along as a team.”

Cowboy sophomore Liam Pauley, wrestling at 138 pounds, beat Ben Dalley of Hettinger-Scranton (N.D.) 4-0 in the seventh-place match. Pauley finished 4-3 in the tournament, including a pair of first-period pins.

Junior Joel Raisler and freshman Kaid Campbell finished in eighth place for Custer County.

Raisler, wrestling at 152 pounds, finished 4-3. Campbell was 4-3 at 132 pounds.
