VICKSBURG, Miss. (AP) — Three boys found a part of a mastodon jawbone while exploring family property in Mississippi.

Two brothers and a cousin made the discovery near Bovina, a small town east of the Mississippi River.

The three initially thought the jaw was a log, then saw that it had teeth.

The item was taken to the Mississippi Museum of Natural Science in Jackson, where the item was confirmed as a lower left jawbone from a mastodon.
