5th annual Festival of Trees slated for Dec. 1

Star Staff Writer

On Friday, Dec. 1, Grounds For Change (GFC) will hold its 5th annual Festival of Trees in conjunction with the Christmas Stroll.

The festival will be from 5-8 p.m. in Vintage and Rustics in Montana at 813 Main St.  Admission is free but the GFC accepts donations.

Skye Arndt of The Grounds For Change Team said: “Beautifully decorated trees and centerpieces with unique designs are the hallmark of this event.”

Other GFC Team members are Stephanie Fossum, Brandi Gray, Sheri Hanson, Antonia Klein, Angie Lohrke, Sara Lucero, Alyssa Shawver, Sherry Taylor, Tabitha Williams, Chelsea Jerke and LeAnn Harrison.

Local businesses and groups sponsor each of the trees entered in the festival, decorating them with ornaments that are “something valued or collected.” The items used to trim each tree are wired in place. Each completed tree is worth at least $100. They will be auctioned off during the festival.

Sponsors not able to provide a tree for the festival will be donating centerpieces, wreaths or baskets with no minimum value. These items also will go on the auction block during the evening.

To auction the various items, tickets will be sold to stroll participants who want to enter a “bid.” Individuals may purchase as many tickets as they want. They will then select which item or items they want to win and place the tickets in the corresponding containers. The highest bid in each article’s container will win the item.

Proceeds will help provide medical vision and dental care, transportation assistance and other services to the needy in the Miles City area.

According to Arndt GFC gave out 33 vouchers worth $4,460 in 2017, including 19 for dental services and 11 for miscellaneous needs such as travel, car seats and groceries. GFC also provided backpacks and school supplies for students and helped sponsor this summer’s MC Summer Harvest with FamFest.
