4C tourney: Lantis leads Terry girls to third place

There was no containing Laiten Lantis, who led Terry over Broadus 62-51 in the third-place game of the District Class 4C girls basketball tournament in Miles City last week.

With her team down 34-33 with five minutes left in the third quarter, Lantis scored 10 straight points to help provide a 43-37 lead. When she picked up her fourth foul and went to the bench, Terry added to its lead, making it 48-40 going into the final quarter.

When Lantis, a 5-foot-6 sophomore, returned to start the fourth quarter, she made the first two field goals and Alyssa McCulley followed with another for a 6-0 run and the 14-point advantage couldn’t be overcome.

The Hawks closed to eight with three minutes left only to have the game end on an 8-3 run by the Terriers.

Lantis finished with 32 points on 13-for-28 shooting, including two 3-pointers. She also had eight rebounds. Lori Kortum chipped in with 12 points and Genna Schroeder had 11 as the trio outscored Broadus by four points.

Leading the Hawks were Laura Harrington with 18 points, Christen Johnson with 17 and. Kiarah Coulter with 10. Harrington also had eight rebounds as Broadus won the battle of the boards 38-33.

The Hawks were ahead 14-11 after the first quarter and it was tied at 27 at halftime.

Wibaux, Ekalaka, Terry and Broadus will go against four teams from District 6C in the Southern C from March 1-3 in Miles City.
