The Miles Community College baseball team added its first Montanan for the 2014-15 season with the signing of Kale Murgel of Helena. Murgel is the second player of the 2014-15 class to sign with MCC.
Murgel, a 6’4, 185-pound pitcher, is a senior at Helena High. In addition to being an All-Conference pitcher for the Helena Senators, he also lettered in football as a junior.
Last year, Murgel went 8-2 with a 2.36 ERA for the Senators.
At MCC, Murgel will be working toward his Associates of Science degree in addition to playing for the Pioneers.
“The environment was simply unbelievable,” Murgel said in a press release. “Everyone welcomed me as I walked into many different doors. The baseball coaches were extremely nice and the players I met welcomed me with open arms. It just seemed like the right choice and it is a very well-rounded community.”
Pioneer Head Coach Jeff Brabant added, “Kale is a sleeper in my mind. He is a physical guy that has a ton of upside and I project him to be a guy that becomes dominant during his tenure here. Kale comes from a great program in Helena, and with Coach Thennis’ tutelage, I am very confident Kale will come into our program ready to move forward. We are lucky to have a great Montana product in our program.”
MCC went 31-13 last season, winning the MonDak Conference title for the 13th straight season and the Regional title for the eighth straight year. They are currently practicing, preparing for their season-opening on March 1 and 2.
