Donald “Don” G. Hubber, 85, of Terry died Friday, Dec. 27, 2013, in Helena.
Mr. Hubber was born Sept. 26, 1928, in Belt, the son of George and Susan Soha Hubber. He lived in Monarch in his early years before moving to the family farm/ranch in Belt. He graduated from Belt High School in 1945 at the age of 16 years.
In 1950 Mr. Hubber graduated from Montana State College in Bozeman with a degree in Range Management.
On Oct. 11, 1949, Mr. Hubber married Marcia Smith in Great Falls. They were able to celebrate their 50th anniversary before Mrs. Hubber died on Aug. 1, 2000.
After graduating from college, Mr. Hubber served two years in the Army. Upon his discharge, he began work for the Soil Conservation Service in Helena. He was transferred to Terry in 1957, where he lived until 2010. While working for the SCS, he planted thousands of trees in Prairie County. Mr. Hubber served on the Terry City Council and later as City Clerk. Upon his retirement from the SCS, Mr. Hubber served as Prairie County Clerk & Recorder for three years, and then began what was probably his favorite job, delivering fuel to his friends in Prairie County for Cenex.
Besides being a terrific husband, father and grandfather, Grandpa Don was a dedicated Terry sports fan, spending numerous hours at baseball, football and basketball games. Later in life, he was an avid license plate collector.
Mr. Hubber’s survivors include his sons, Dale (Joan) Hubber of Portland, Ore., and Dan (Peg) Hubber of Clancy; his daughter, Susan (Kevin) Miller of Glendive; his grandchildren, Jude (Felicia) Hubber of Portland, Ross (Bri) Hubber of Denver, Colo., Evan (Alexis) Miller of Brookings, S.D., Bethany (Reid) Ryan of Jordan, Bret (Sarah) Hubber of Helena and Erica Hubber of Helena; and his great-grandchildren, Ashlynn Miller and Declan Hubber.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, John; his parents; his wife, Marcia; and his sister, Mary Cleveland.
Visitation will be Friday, Jan. 3, 2014, from 1 to 6 p.m. at Stevenson and Sons Funeral Home in Terry. Funeral services will be Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014, at 1 p.m. in Stevenson and Sons Funeral Home in Terry. Interment will follow in the Prairie County Cemetery in Terry.
