Citizens of Miles City:
I would like to bring to your attention the recent vandalism that has occurred in Riverside Park. Recently Phase 1 of Riverside Park was completed, which included walk paths, lights and a new restroom facility. There have already been several acts of vandalism to this park since this summer. Three lights on the walk path were broken and recently the restroom was vandalized. These restrooms have remained open for the extended season because they were designed to withstand colder weather, but the city may have no other choice but to close them for the season.
There was a lot of hard work that went into getting this project completed. The Rotary Club raised funds for this project and we also used grant money to help with funding. The city doesn’t want the hard work and efforts of others to be for nothing if we allow a few individuals to destroy it.
The good news is that we have installed cameras in this park as well as other parks. The city is working with the police department to identify and prosecute the individuals that have committed these acts of vandalism and to seek restitution from these individuals. The city will continue to monitor the parks and other public facilities and, rest assured, we will not tolerate vandalism of any kind. If you do, we will prosecute you to the fullest extent of the law.
So, remember the next time you are in a city park or on city property, smile, because you are on camera, and if you vandalize, we will see you and you will be prosecuted.
