Unconfirmed reports were circulating today that a 24-year-old woman was abducted from Colstrip either Sunday night or Monday norming.
But according to the sheriff’s office in Johnson County, Wyoming, where the unnamed woman was found safe early this morning, authorities could find no evidence that a kidnapping had taken place.
Sheriff Steve Kozisek said the woman and her car were found east of Buffalo, Wyo., on Interstate 94 at 4:28 a.m. Monday.
Kozisek said the woman reported that she had given birth in the trunk of her car.
However, he said, “There was no indication of her having a baby or being pregnant.”
She was transferred by ambulance to Johnson County Healthcare Center in Buffalo.
Kozisek said she is uninjured and is under a physician’s and mental health professionals’ care.
When asked about a possible abduction, Rosebud County (Mont.) Undersheriff Allen Fulton said Monday that he could not confirm or deny the report, saying only that the woman had been found. The Colstrip Police Department could not be reached for comment by presstime.
Authorities did not provide the woman’s name, and the Miles City Star typically does not identify people when mental health issues are involved.
