Thanks for wreaths

Dear editor,

On December 14, the Annual Wreaths Across America Ceremony for 2013 was conducted at the Eastern Montana Veterans Cemetery south of Miles City. This is the 6th year I’ve had the privilege of conducting the ceremony. But this could not be done without the assistance of a lot of people.

First of all, to Curt Holmlund, Curator of the Eastern Montana Veterans Cemetery. With all the snow we had the week leading up to the ceremony, he spent countless hours ensuring the roads leading into the cemetery, as well as the Memorial Circle, were as clear as possible.  THANK YOU!

Secondly, to Rita and the Elks Lodge for the fund raising efforts they spearheaded to ensure there was a Christmas wreath on every headstone in the cemetery. THANK YOU!

To everybody who donated their time to put the bows on the wreaths, donated their equipment to transport the wreaths, and took the time out of their busy schedule to ensure the wreaths were distributed through the snow to the headstones. THANK YOU.

This year, Wreaths Across America placed 540,000 wreaths at over 910 locations worldwide. Let us always remember it’s our Veterans who put themselves in harm’s way to ensure we can continue to enjoy the freedoms we at times take for granted. Mark it on your calendar to plan on participating and attending the 2014 Wreaths Across America Ceremony. It’s held every year on the second Saturday in December.  This year it will be on December 13 at 10 in the morning regardless of weather. This time coincides with the laying of the wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldiers at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C.

Here’s wishing everybody a safe and prosperous Happy New Year.
