Six confirmed flu cases in county

According to Cindia Miller, RN, Public Health Emergency Preparedness Coordinator for the Custer County Public Health department, there are now six confirmed cases of influenza in Custer County.

In the past week, 87 tests have been done on patients with influenza-like symptoms, and three were positive. This is in line with increasing numbers in the United States.

Miller recommends that people who have symptoms contact their medical provider to determine if they have influenza and if anti-virals are appropriate.

People with symptoms should stay home if they are ill; cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue; dispose of the tissue; and wash hands after coughing or sneezing.

Flu shots are still available at various health providers, but it’s best to call ahead for availability.
