Outlaws go 1-2 on opening weekend in Cheyenne, Wyo

The Miles City Outlaws opened their season last weekend, traveling to Cheyenne, Wyo., to take on the Cheyenne Mustangs in three games.

The Outlaws lost both games on Saturday, 7-6 and 9-5, before rallying for a 12-8 win on Sunday. The same teams will play this weekend in Miles City at Tedesco Field. Games will start at 1 p.m., on Saturday and 11 a.m., on Sunday.

Cheyenne 7, Outlaws 6

Cheyenne scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to pull off the comeback victory.

The game was tied at one going into the fourth when the Outlaws scored a pair of runs, one on a wild pitch and the other on a Cade Warren single. The Outlaws stretched the lead to 4-1 going into the bottom of the fifth when Cheyenne plated three runs to tie the score at four.

The teams then traded runs, with the Outlaws holding a 6-5 lead going into the bottom of the eighth. In the eighth, four walks and a fielders choice allowed Cheyenne to score the two runs they needed to win.

Pitchers on both sides had struggles finding the strike zone in the game. Combined, the teams had a total of 26 walks, 13 for each team.

The Outlaws out-hit Cheyenne 5-3. Rylee Peterson, Cade Warren, Jared Hardin, Brac Warren and Kris Noble each had singles.

Cheyenne 9, Outlaws 5

A late Outlaw rally was not enough to bring them back from a big early deficit.

The Mustangs scored eight of their nine runs in the first two innings, taking advantage of 15 Outlaw walks on the game. Cheyenne had just four hits as a team.

The Outlaws were held to one run through the first five innings. IN the sixth they broke through with four runs. Jared Harden smacked a two-run triple to highlight the inning.

Cade Warren went 2-4 to lead the Outlaws. Harden had two RBIs and Rylee Peterson doubled and scored twice.

Outlaws 12, Cheyenne 8

The Outlaws jumped out to a big early lead, but needed a late rally to earn their first win of the season.

The Outlaws came out firing in the first, scoring five runs on four hits. Jared Bellows had the big hit,  a two run single at the end of the first inning. Their lead got as big as 7-1 before Cheyenne rallied to tie the game in the third inning.

The teams traded runs over the next few innings and the Outlaws went into the sixth with a slight 9-8 lead.

In the top of the sixth, the Outlaws scored three runs on four hits. Brac Warren and Dylan Murnoe each doubled in the inning.

Peterson had a good outing on the mound, allowing one unearned run on one hit. He struck out six and walked one in four and one-third innings of work.

The Outlaws pounded out 15 hits in the win. Peterson and Brac Warren led the offense. Peterson was 4-5 with two doubles and three runs scored. Warren was 3-5 with three doubles and two runs scored. Kyle Nielson and Jared Bellows each had two hits, Bellows drovein three and Nielson knocked in two.
