MCC basketball opens Region IX season tonight
The Miles Community College basketball teams will be at home the next three nights, including their Region IX season openers.
MCC will host Central Wyoming tonight at the Centra, the women at 5:30 p.m., followed by the men at 7:30 p.m.
Friday and Saturday night, the Pioneers will be hosting former MonDak Conference rivals Lake Region and Williston State in the Pioneer Club Tournament. Friday night's games start at 5:30 p.m., and Saturday's at 4 p.m.
The Pioneers are 3-3, trading wins and losses through their first three games.
Six Pioneers are averaging over nine points per game for the offense that averages 77 points per game. Ryan McCarty leads the team at 16.2 points per game, followed by Jonathan Dogbo at 15.2 and Teslim Idris at 10.7. Quinn Smith, LaSalle Massey and Conner Smyle are also over nine points per game.
Dogbo leads the team with 8.7 rebounds per game and Tyree King has dished out 17 assists this season.
The Central Wyoming men are 2-4 on the season and are coming off a 69-59 win over Salish-Kootenai College. Morgan Daryle, Bryce Canda, Isaiah Tademy and Malik Wilson each average around 11 points per game for the Rustlers.
The Lady Pioneers are 5-1 on the year, with their only loss coming at the hands of Williston State, 79-32.
Jaycin Tini and Tess Blaquiere have led the Lady Pioneers throughout the season. Tini is averaging 17.2 points and 8.8 rebounds per game and Blaquiere scores 12.7 points and grabs 8.2 rebounds per game.
Petra Lumpert and Ashley Malmquist are each averaging around nine points per game.
The Lady Rustlers of Central Wyoming are 2-1 on the year. They opened with a 90-77 win over Lamar and a 72-32 win over the Wyoming All-Stars. Western Nebraska handed them a 56-51 loss. Jolanna Sazue leads the Lady Rustlers, averaging 15.7 points and nine rebounds per game. Tina Hosea averages 11.3 points and Abbey Wilson averages just over nine.
