Loraine Elizabeth Wohlgenant
Loraine Elizabeth Wohlgenant, 92, died Thursday, July 24, 2014, at Holy Rosary Healthcare in Miles City.
She was born in Miles City on June 8, 1922, to Lawrence and Mildred Wohlgenant. She attended school in her early years in a one-room schoolhouse in the Pine Hills. She graduated from Custer County High School and went on to earn her bachelor’s degree in nursing from Washington State University.
She furthered her education by completing her master’s degree in nursing from University of California, Los Angeles. She worked in nursing throughout the northwest and also in Chicago and New York City. Later in life, she returned to Miles City, where she lived at the family home and served as a caregiver for her parents and her twin sister, Eileen.
She enjoyed gardening and continued doing her own yard work into her 90s. She had a sharp mind, always reading a variety of literature and keeping up with current events through her newspapers. She loved the challenge of playing card games with family and friends, more often than not winning the games by bidding high and following through with gutsy plays. She enjoyed life and maintained a spotless house until she was hospitalized in the last months.
Her survivors include her sisters, Mona Reiner (Doug) of Keller, Texas, and Joane Griffith of Helena; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Mildred; and her sisters, Phyllis Griffith, Eileen Wohlgenant and Kay Newlin.
A private family memorial service will be held at a later date. Interment will be in the Custer County Cemetery.
