Gerald James ‘Jerry’ Haugen
Gerald James “Jerry” Haugen age 75 of Cody, Wyoming passed away from the result of an auto accident near Lander, WY on Friday, January 17, 2014.
Jerry was born May 23, 1938 on the family farm in Sutton, ND to Joseph and Cecilia Haugen. He graduated from Wimbledon High School in Wimbledon, ND in 1956. He served in the US Navy from 1956 to 1960. He was stationed at Long Beach, CA and on board USS Frank E Evans.
In September of 1957 he married his high school sweetheart Georgianna Crites North in Wimbledon, ND. From that union six children were born. Jerry and his wife enjoyed traveling and attending his navy ship reunion.
In the fall of 1967, Jerry moved his wife and five children from Valley City, ND to Miles City, MT to establish a successful business Jerry’s Refrigeration. After several years of self employment, Jerry chose to work for a corporate company which took him to Helena, MT and Cody, WY. In 2000, Jerry retired from Johnson controls.
Jerry is known for his service to his community by participating in several community organizations. Jerry was a member of St. Anthony’s parish in Cody and St Theresa’s parish in Meeteetse, WY.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Georgianna Crites; children, James Haugen of Buffalo, WY, Joelyne (Michael) Rogers of Billings, MT, Lawrence (Susan) Haugen of Seattle WA, Lee Haugen of Palm Springs, CA, Lisa (Tim) Ranes of Billings, MT, and Michael (Monica) Haugen of Shoreline, WA.; six grandsons; two granddaughters; 4 great-grandchildren. He is also is survived by his brother Bob (Pat) Haugen of Rapid City SD, sister Maryann ( Phil) Davidson of Watford ND, sister-in-law Margaret Haugen of Dickinson, ND and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes Jerry to be honored by contributions to the charity of your choice.
Mass of Christian burial will be 11:00 AM Friday, January 24, 2014 at the Church of St. Anthony in Cody, WY with burial at Riverside Cemetery. Arrangements are under direction of Ballard Funeral Home.
