Diamond Rio to kick off BHS Thursday night

The 64th Annual Miles City Bucking Horse Sale will get off to a rocking start on Thursday night when Grammy Award-winning group Diamond Rio plays at the Eastern Montana Fairgrounds.

The music gets started at 5:30 p.m., with Miles City local Andy Wemmer and Friends. Copper Mountain Band will play at 6 p.m., followed by Outshyne at 7:10 p.m. Diamond Rio will take the stage at 8:30 p.m.

Tickets for the show are $30 and are available at Murdoch’s Ranch and Home, Stockman Bank and the Texas Club. Tickets can also be purchased at the Miles City Area Chamber of Commerce at 234-2890.

Diamond Rio is one of the most decorated country groups of all time. They have been nominated for the Country Music Association’s Vocal Group of the Year award 15 times, more than any other group. They won the Country Music Association award in 1992, 1993, 1994 and in 1997. They were also named the Academy of Country Music’s Top Vocal Group in 1991 and 1992.

Diamond Rio has been nominated for 13 Grammy Awards. They picked up their first Grammy in 2011, winning the Best Southern, Country or Bluegrass Gospel Album for their album “The Reason.” They have also received three Dove Award nominations, winning the Country Album of the Year in 2010.

The band formed in Nashville in 1984 and signed to Arista Records in 1988. They finally made their debut, in a big way, in 1991.

Their single “Meet in the Middle” was released in 1991, and they became the first country group to reach the top of the Hot Country Singles chart with their debut single. The success of “Meet in the Middle” carried their self-titled debut album to platinum status with more than a million copies.

Following “Meet in the Middle,” Diamond Rio had four other singles reach the top of the country charts: “How Your Love Makes Me Feel” in 1997, “One More Day” in 2001, “Beautiful Mess” in 2002 and “I Believe” in 2003. They have had 19 singles reach the top 10 of the country charts.

The band has released eight studio albums, two greatest hits compilations, a Christmas album and has been part of numerous other projects.

Diamond Rio will be in Helena on Saturday before heading back to the South for three dates. They will return to the area on June 13 when they play at Deadwood, S.D., and they will be in Huntley, Mont., on July 11.

Outshyne is a country band from South Carolina that formed in 2007 and has been touring full time since 2010. They have opened for country acts such as Jake Owen, Eric Church and Gary Allan, among others.

Their first single, “Dirt Road Romance,” reached #29 on the Music Row Chart and #46 on the Billboard Indicator Chart. Their second single, “Moonlight Crush,” is currently #24 and #40 on the country charts, respectively. The two singles have over 100,000 downloads on iTunes, and their debut album, “Starting Over,” was #11 on iTunes the day it was released.

Bucking Horse Sale veteran Copper Mountain Band hails from northwestern Montana. Their high-energy shows have long been fan favorites at the concert and at their shows on Main Street at the street dance.

The Copper Mountain Band formed in 2007 and has toured extensively since then. They have shared the stage with country acts Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, John Michael Montgomery and Sawyer Brown, among a long list of others.

The Copper Mountain Band will again be playing at the street dance throughout the Bucking Horse Sale weekend.

Andy Wemmer has built a strong following locally and has opened the Bucking Horse Sale concert for a number of years.

There will not be a steak fry before the concert, as in previous years.
