The Custer County District High School Cowboy basketball team returned from the long winter break with a pair of tough losses over the weekend.
On Friday night, the Cowboys lost to a good AA Billings Senior team 72-58 and then the Cowboys hung around with Eastern A leader Glendive before falling 57-48.
With the losses, the Cowboys dropped to 1-3 overall on the season and 1-2 in the Eastern A. They are in Laurel tomorrow night and will be in Billings against Billings Central on Saturday.

Billings Senior took control of the game early, outscoring the Cowboys 27-13 in the first quarter. But, the Cowboys played tough the rest of the way.
The Cowboys cut the deficit to nine, 43-34, at halftime. But that was as close as the Cowboys would get, with Senior outscoring them 29-24 in the second half.

The Cowboys and Red Devils played a back-and-forth game until the Red Devils pulled away for the nine point win.

Junior Timmy Regan, making his season debut, had 11 of the Cowboys 21 points in the first half, leading them to a 21-20 lead at the break.
The lead changed hands four more times early in the third quarter before Glendive went on a 6-0 run that gave them a 32-26 lead, the biggest for either team to that point.
Regan answered with a basket and a Warren three cut the score to 32-31. Warren followed a Glendive turnover with a basket, giving the Cowboys the 33-32 lead. But Glendive hit a pair of threes in the final minutes to give the Red Devils a 38-33 lead going into the fourth.
The Cowboys cut the score to as few as four in the fourth quarter, but the Red Devils steadily pulled away at the free throw line.
The Cowboys had a rough night shooting, hitting 31 percent of their field goals and only 46 percent of their free throws.
Glendive was a solid 75 percent from the free throw line and held a slight 44-39 edge in rebounds.
