T en Custer County District High School football players earned 13 spots on the Eastern A All-Conference teams, which were announced earlier this week. Of those 10 players, only two were seniors.

Seven players were named on the offensive teams and six more on the defensive side of the ball.

The record-setting duo of quarterback Ben Herzog and receiver Alec Haughian were each unanimous selections at their respective positions.

In his senior season, Herzog completed 99 of 192 passes for 1,352 yards and 14 touchdowns. Herzog also led the Cowboys in rushing with 779 yards and 13 touchdowns. Haughian, a junior, caught 62 of those passes for 934 yards and eight touchdowns.

Junior Brett Keith was named to the second team as a wide receiver. He had 14 catches for 193 yards and five scores. Junior Evan Haughian was an honorable mention at running back. He had 670 yards and four touchdowns on the season.

Those players had the great seasons thanks to strong blocking up front. Senior Colton Pederson was named as a first-team All-Conference tackle and junior Morgan Bishop was a second-team center.

Junior Beau Peaslee was named an honorable mention tight end, in large part to his strong blocking abilities.

On the defensive side of the ball, Peaslee was a unanimous choice for first-team at defensive end.

Sophomore Cord Murray, Evan Haughian and Herzog were each second-team all-conference at defensive line, outside linebacker and cornerback, respectively.

Junior Robert Hofer was an honorable mention selection at outside linebacker and sophomore Lane Giovanetti was an honorable mention inside linebacker.

Herzog was all-conference at both quarterback and cornerback last season. Alec Haughian, Bishop, Hofer and Peaslee were also recognized for the second straight season.

Herzog ends his Cowboy career as the most prolific passer in school history.

In his senior season, he set records for most yards, completions and attempts. He also became only the second Cowboy quarterback to break the 2,000 yard barrier for rushing and receiving with 2,131 total yards. Shane Cooley had 2,418 in 2010. Herzog’s 27 total touchdowns are second only to Cooley’s 28 in 2010.

For his career, Herzog owns nearly every record in the book. His 247 completions are 113 more than Jordan Bryant. His 524 attempts are 258 more than Bryant and his 3,462 yards passing put him above Chris Morford’s 2,181 yards. Herzog finished with 41 passing touchdowns, 12 more than Morford had.

Herzog is the only Cowboy quarterback in school history to crack 5,000 combined yards. He finished with 5,063. Cooley held that record with 3,857. And his 61 total touchdowns are 15 more than Cooley finished with.

Alec Haughian’s receiving numbers this season would have broken the school’s career records. As it stands, he owns the regular season catches record by 23 catches, the yardage record by 320 and is second on the list with eight touchdowns.

In his two seasons, he now has 87 catches for 1,292 yards and 13 scores. All three are school career records.

The Cowboys finished the season 5-4-1 and lost 21-20 to Havre in the first round of the Class A state playoffs. They will return all but three players next season.
